August is National Wellness Month, a time to focus on self-care, managing stress, and promoting healthy routines. Research has shown self-care helps manage stress or worries and promotes happiness. You are the most important person in your life.
It’s important to make those tiny small changes but also aim for bigger changes like challenging yourself to a new workout class, trying a different spa treatment; anything that will impact your health in positive ways.
Here’s a list of things you can try out this month:
Increase your water intake
Add more fruits and veggies to your meals
Monitor your sleep and make adjustments for better sleep habits
Join a yoga, walking, or aerobics class
Learn to meditate or practice deep breathing
Nourish your skin
Stretch for at least 15 minutes, daily
Keep a journal to process your thoughts and emotions
Watch a sunrise or sunset and enjoy nature
Set out to learn something new every day
Take a long bath or shower
Have a spa day, solo or with a friend or family member
Make a daily gratitude list
Buy a bouquet of flowers for yourself
Take a social media break
Go for a long drive - no destination required
Try out a new hobby or do a new activity daily
Say ‘no’ to something you would usually say ‘yes’ to
Don’t answer work emails after work hours
Wear an outfit that you look and feel great in, even if you have nowhere to go
Set a goal for the next week, month, or year
Choose an affirmation to repeat to yourself for the entire day
Read a book for at least 30 minutes a day
Make a vision board
Self-care is different for everyone, pick a few things that really stand out to you and try them! You can even make a jar filled with self-care ideas to pull from when you’re lacking inspiration. It is never too early or too late to start caring about yourself!
