The Ultimate Grilled Chicken Recipe

Barbecuing can be intimidating! With endless meat and side dish options, sometimes the simplest recipe is the best, which is why we're sharing a super simple, easy, juicy, and delicious Grilled Chicken recipe!

Ingredients:

  • Your favorite chicken part (legs, thighs, wings, breasts), skin-on

  • Salt and Pepper

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 1 cup of barbecue sauce

How To Make:

  1. Prepare one side of your grill for high, direct heat. If you are using charcoal or wood, make sure there is a cool side to the grill where there are few to no coals.

  2. Coat your chicken pieces with olive oil and sprinkle salt and pepper, on all sides.

  3. Lay the chicken pieces skin side down on the hottest side of the grill.

  4. Grill uncovered for 5-10 minutes, depending on how hot the grill is (you do not want the chicken to burn).

  5. Once you have a good sear on one side, turn the chicken pieces over and move them to the cooler side of the grill.

  6. If you are using a gas grill, maintain the flame on only one side of the grill, and move the chicken pieces to the cooler side, not directly over the flame. Reduce the temp to low or medium low (between 250°F and 275°F, no more than 300°F).

  7. Cover the grill and let it cook for 20-30 minutes.

  8. Turn over the chicken and baste them with with BBQ sauce.

  9. Cover the grill again and cook for 15-20 minutes.

  10. Repeat the process, turning the chicken pieces over, basting them with sauce, covering, and cooking for another 10-30 minutes, depending on the size of the pieces - smaller pieces will require less time.

  11. The chicken is done when the internal temperature of the chicken pieces are 160/170°F. If the chicken isn't done, turn the pieces over and continue to cook at a low temperature.

  12. If you want, use a brush to paint the cooked chicken with more BBQ sauce.

  13. Serve and enjoy!
