How To Make A Watermelon Grill!

August 3rd is National Watermelon Day and since Watermelon is the (unofficial) official fruit of summer, we had to share one of the funniest ways to serve up Watermelon! Whether it's for your next BBQ or for a random weeknight this will be a total hit!

Ingredients:

  • Watermelon

  • 3 stalks celery

  • ½ lime

  • Blackberry

  • Assortment of your favorite fruit

  • Wooden skewers

How To Make:

  1. Using a melon baller, make three divots in the bottom of the watermelon that are slightly smaller than the circumference of the celery stalks.

  2. Cut the watermelon in half, with the bottom side of the “grill” being slightly larger than the “lid” side.

  3. Hollow out the watermelon halves using either a melon baller or spoon. Save the pieces for the fruit skewers.

  4. Insert the celery into each divot on the bottom half of the watermelon. If it's not secure, a toothpick will help!

  5. Insert 3 wooden skewers into the watermelon half along its top edge to start assembling the “grill”, spacing them apart evenly. You probably will need to cut the skewers.

  6. Fill the grill with blackberries, which will act as your charcoal. About halfway.

  7. Finish inserting the rest of the skewers to complete the bottom half of the grill.

  8. Take the hollowed top half of the watermelon and toothpick a lime half to make the grill lid.

  9. Assemble your fruit skewers with any assorted fruit and get “grilling”!

  10. Add two skewers into the rim of the bottom half of the watermelon.

  11. Serve and enjoy!

Tip: To make this process even smoother and easier, we decided not to make the grill lid but we added instructions just in case you wanted to!
