Garlic Knots Christmas Tree

This is the cutest way to serve everyone's favorite - garlic knots! We made the knots from scratch but you can buy prepared knots and serve them this way!

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2-2 1/3 cups bread flour divided (or all purpose flour)

  • 1 packet instant yeast, about 2 1/4 teaspoons

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar

  • 3/4 teaspoons of salt

  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 3 Tablespoons of olive oil

  • 3/4 cup warm water

Garlic Butter:

  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter

  • 3 cloves of minced garlic

  • 2 Tablespoons of minced fresh basil

  • Grated parmesan cheese optional

How To Make

Dough:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, instant yeast, sugar, salt, and garlic powder. Stir well.

  • Add the olive oil and warm water and use a wooden spoon to stir until all ingredients are combined and evenly distributed.

  • Slowly add another (1) cup of flour. Add any additional flour as needed. Stirring until the dough forms an elastic ball and is beginning to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

  • In another large bowl, add olive oil and use a pastry brush to brush up the sides of the bowl.

  • Transfer your dough to prepared bowl and roll the dough through the oil until the entire surface of the dough is coated with oil. Then cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and place on top of your oven to rise for roughly 40 minutes (or until doubled in size).

  • Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Form the dough into a long log and cut the dough into as many small pieces as you want.

  • Roll each piece between your palms and slightly pull it to form a rope, lightly dust the dough with flour if needed.

  • Tie each rope into a knot and place on prepared baking sheet.

  • Lightly brush with olive oil, if desired.

  • Set the tray on top of the warm oven and let garlic knots rise for 10 minutes, before you begin baking them.

  • Once they're done, put them into the oven and make them at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until they begin to turn a light golden brown color.

  • While garlic knots are baking, prepare Garlic Butter.

Garlic Butter:

  • Combine butter and garlic in a small pan over medium/low heat.

  • Cook until butter is melted and garlic is fragrant, stirring occasionally as to evenly spread it.

  • Remove from heat and stir in minced basil.

  • Once Garlic Knots have finished baking, use a pastry brush to generously brush garlic butter mixture over each knot.

  • Sprinkle with grated parmesan, if desired.

  • Enjoy served warm.
