DIY: Vanilla Extract

Only using two ingredients, Vanilla Extract is super easy to make! We're sharing our favorite recipe that is our secret baking weapon. Whether you're gifting this to friends and family or using it for your own baking, this Vanilla Extract will add a kick to any recipe!


Things You'll Need:

  • 18-20 Vanilla Beans

  • 48 oz Plain Vodka (80 Proof)

  • Small funnel or measuring cup with pouring lip

  • 12 4oz clear bottles with lids (avoid cork lids)

  • Labels (pre-made or store bought)

  • Kitchen scissors or sharp knife


How To Make:

  1. Wash and sanitize bottles and lids: Wash with mild soapy water, rinse, then carefully swirl with boiling hot water to sanitize them.

  2. Using kitchen scissors, cut the vanilla beans in half.

  3. Then split the beans, cutting them about halfway down the stem.

  4. Place a total of 1 1/2 whole beans in each jar.

  5. Use a funnel to pour vodka to the top of jar.

  6. Decorate the jar, noting the date.

  7. Cover tightly with lid and let them brew for 2 months, shaking occasionally.
